What changes when you have your private villa to yourselves?
The difference is not the finish. It is the structure. Your guide works for your party alone. Your chef cooks to your table’s hours and appetites, whether that is breakfast at six before the drive or a long lunch that drifts into the afternoon. The vehicle leaves when you say it leaves.
So there is no wake up call set for the lodge, no fixed sitting, no negotiation over whether the afternoon drive waits for the teenager who slept in. For a family or a group of friends who want a safari on their own terms, it is a different proposition from a suite in a shared lodge.
The residences run on their own, apart from the lodges. Kwena Lodge is for guests aged twelve and over. Lehele Lodge is the family lodge. Ikhara and Psamma welcome children of any age.
The fynbos and why it matters
Gondwana has more than 15,000 hectares under protection in the Cape Floral Kingdom, fynbos of this corner of South Africa. It is a free roaming private reserve in the Southern Cape. More than twenty years of rewilding have turned former farmland back into the landscape you drive, walk and ride through and that work is still expanding.
The whole reserve is malaria free. If you are travelling with young children, or from anywhere that makes antimalarials complicated, that removes a layer of planning.
Game drives cover the reserve. Guided fynbos walks and e-Bike safaris run in a separate protected area with no dangerous game. The walks are open to children and to anyone who wants time on foot without the rules of a dangerous game concession.
Ikhara Villa
Glass, clean contemporary lines and a full 360 degree sweep taking in both the Langeberg and Outeniqua ranges from every room. Three ensuite bedrooms for up to six guests. In the evening, a wood fired hot tub and the mountains going dark.

What is included?
Every meal and every drink, including spirits and liqueurs. French champagne and premium wines are excluded. High speed WiFi, DSTV and a specialty coffee machine in each residence.
Guided activities at no extra charge. The Junior Ranger Programme for children aged four to twelve. e-Bike safaris from sixteen. The guided fynbos walk from six. The Bokkie Drive for children up to twelve.
Wellness treatments and babysitting can be arranged at additional cost. A conservation fee is charged separately for each stay and goes to a registered conservation fund. Private residences require a minimum of two nights.
Children and mixed ages
Ikhara and Psamma welcome children of any age. Kwena Lodge stays at twelve and over. The activity age limits above belong to specific activities, not to the residence stay, so a party spanning toddlers and teenagers can share your private villa. The household sets the day.
Getting here
The reserve sits off the N2 near Mossel Bay, roughly four hours from Cape Town and just over an hour from George Airport. Both residences are self drive accessible.
