Everything you need before you arrive at Gondwana Game Reserve.
Getting here, what to bring, travelling with children and when the fynbos is at its best.
How do I get to Gondwana?
Gondwana Game Reserve sits on the Garden Route near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. You drive in on tar a few minutes off the N2. From Cape Town follow the N2 toward George and Mossel Bay, then take the R327 for Herbertsdale / Mossdustria and follow the brown Gondwana signs to the main gate. From George Airport join the N2 toward Mossel Bay and Cape Town, then the same R327 turning. Report to security at the gate for directions to your stay. Full step by step directions live on Directions and Map. Printable directions are linked from Guest Arrival Information.
Reservations telephone +27 (0)44 333 0200. Email reservations@gondwanagr.co.za.
How far is it from Cape Town and George?
From Cape Town about 380 km by road. Roughly four hours. From George Airport about 75 km. Just over an hour. Self drive is straightforward in a normal hire car. Drive slowly on the dirt section after the cattle grid if your vehicle sits low.
Is Gondwana malaria free?
Yes. Gondwana Game Reserve is in a malaria free region of the Western Cape. No antimalarials are needed for the reserve itself. If your trip includes other regions, check with your doctor.
What should I pack?
Dress in layers in bush colours. Khaki, brown and beige. Bring a wide brim hat, a beanie for cool mornings, a fleece or puffer, walking shoes, flip flops, insect repellent, sunscreen, a swimsuit, binoculars and a camera. A travel adaptor matters too. The full essentials list lives on Guest Arrival Information and on the lodge arrival pages.
Your packing list is here to download and tick off on your phone.
Can we bring children?
Children are welcome. Lehele Lodge is the family lodge. Children’s menus, the Junior Ranger Programme, Bokkie drives and guided walks can be arranged around your ages. Children aged 3 and over can join game drives. Private vehicles and babysitting are on request and set out with your quote. See Families at Gondwana for the detail. Ask reservations which stay suits your family.
Do you allow day visitors?
We do not host day visitors. Gondwana Game Reserve is a stay only reserve. That protects the quiet of overnight guests and the wildlife. If you have a question before you book, call 044 333 0200 or email reservations@gondwanagr.co.za.
When is the best time to come?
Year round. Each season has its own character. Summer brings long light and calves on the plains. Autumn and winter light up the fynbos and the nectar birds. Spring brings flowers, returning migrants and more young antelope. See Seasons for the month by month picture.
A conservation fee is charged separately for each stay and goes to a registered conservation fund.
